Gilman School senior midfielder Jake Matthai has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at the University of North Carolina.

Jake Matthai log:

Jake Matthai

High School: Gilman School

Graduation Year: 2012

Position:
Midfield

College Choice: North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Club Affiliation: Trilogy

Major lacrosse honors: Nike Blue Chip sophomore & Junior camps, Underclassmen Maryland Under Armour team, 2011 MIAA Champions

Academic honors: Charm City Lacrosse Clinic, The Samaritan Women Foundation

What will you major in/study? Potentially studio art, history, architecture, or maybe agriculture.

Why did you choose school?
“I chose UNC for many reasons, and my father played lacrosse there back in the 70’s…so I have been growing up wearing Carolina blue. However, I can quite simply see myself fitting into the southern culture down there. Also, after getting to know the coaching staff I felt that they were the kind of people that would help me reach my fullest potential on and off the field. I know that there are lots of great colleges out there, but I feel that I have chosen the one that fits my personality.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “I am looking forward to this upcoming season very much. We are returning lots of strong players and will also incorporate new young guns to the squad. The core group of seniors is also going to help kindle the kind of leadership we need to succeed, not to mention build upon the friendships we have together.”

Other comments: “I would like to thank my father. He has coached me ever since I started the game some thirteen years ago, and has been the best influence in my life. Love you dad.”
