Clinics

Coach Jeff Shirk’s Winter Lacrosse Clinics, for boys aged 7-to-18, at Washington College begin Sunday, Feb. 12 and continue for two additional weeks.

The clinics will focus on individual, positional, and fundamental skill development for all ages and ability levels in a fun upbeat environment. Current Washington College players and coaches look forward to working with our local youth and high school lacrosse players. Please come out and join us for a fun filled lacrosse experience in the Johnson Lifetime Fitness Center.

Lions Pride Howard Boys Lacrosse Clinic scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m., March 10 at Howard High School. Sign-in will begin at 10:30 near the tennis courts. All participants need a helmet, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, mouth piece, cleats, stick and reversible jersey. The clinic is open to boys currently in grades 6-8 and is free to Howard County residents. Registration information is available at http://www.howardhighschool.net/index/Lacrosse_Boys.html.

Summer Tournaments

Ninth Annual Liberty Lacrosse Shootout, a boys’ youth lacrosse festival, June 9-10, at the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association’s Line Road Complex, Malvern. The Liberty Shootout has become one of the most popular youth festivals in the Mid-Atlantic region, drawing teams Greater Philadelphia, Central PA, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey and neighboring hotbeds within a few hours’ drive. Over 100 teams and 2500 youth players are expected to participate. Warrior has been the principal sponsor of the Shootout for 7 years.
Liberty is a day tournament, with U-9 and U-13 teams playing on Saturday and U-11 and U-15 teams playing on Sunday. Teams can register to play in either A or B brackets, though all U-9 teams play in one bracket on smaller-sized fields (7 v 7), often generating the most noise. Teams will play at least 3 games in diverse pools within their respective age groups. The competition is strong at each level, rules are designed to ensure games remain competitive; pool winners advance in a playoff format.

Additionally, teams in each age group will be recognized for sportsmanship based largely on sportsmanship scorecards kept by certified officials and site marshals after each game, taking into account the spirit of the game and conduct on both sides of the field, including spectators. Fifteenth Annual Jay Gallagher Memorial Tournament, hosted by The Garden City youth lacrosse program and Jay Gallagher Memorial Foundation, on June 16-17. The tournament raises funds and public awareness for the Andy Foundation, Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation and the Miracle Foundation. Over 120 teams from the Northeast will participate with over 4,000 players, coaches, and parents attending the event. Games will be held at St. Paul’s, Garden City Middle School and Garden City High School.

The Jay Gallagher Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving cancer awareness, improving the lives of those diagnosed with cancer, and finding a cure for the disease. This year’s tournament will involve 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade boy’s divisions and 4th, 5th and 6th grade girl’s divisions. All games will be played between 10 AM and 4PM. The registration fee is $600.00 and includes all referees fees and tee shirts for the boys and girls. Last year’s tourney drew 120 teams and the first ever Challenger Lacrosse game in the Northeast. The program is geared to providing athletic opportunities to children with mental and physical disabilities (ages 6-21).

The 5th Annual Patriot Games Youth Lacrosse Showcase, July 21-22, at 3 venues in Bucks County, Pennsylvania – Herbst Field Complex, home of the Central Bucks Athletic Association, Palisades High School, and New-Hope Solebury High School. The event has teams from al traditional hotbeds and has drawn talented contingents from Canada and emerging regions of the country, including California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. Past events have also included “Bridge” programs from Baltimore and Philadelphia. This year, the Patriot Games has been selected by NDP Lacrosse as an “Official Qualifying Event” for the Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions, which will take place outside of Tampa in January 2013. Top finishing teams in selected divisions will earn bids to join other top club teams from around the nation to compete in the high profile, national championship event.

The Patriot Games offers Youth and High School brackets. Youth brackets (U11, U13, U15) are broken down into 3 divisions (AA, A and B) to ensure teams are playing at the appropriate level and to optimize competition. High School brackets feature A & B divisions and consist of JV/Rising Stars (Rising Freshmen/Class of 2016; Rising Sophomores/Class of 2015) and Varsity/Elite (Rising Seniors/Class of 2013 or younger). As in 2011, teams in each age group will be recognized for sportsmanship based largely on sportsmanship scorecards kept by certified officials and site marshals after each game, taking into account the spirit of the game and conduct on both sides of the field, including spectators.

Recruiting Tournament

FLG IN 3D Tournament, hosted by For the Love of the Game and 3d Lacrosse (CO), at Archbishop Spading, Severn, MD, July 20-22. Top club teams from different regions of the country will spend a weekend competing against each other in a high-level tournament that will include college coaches from Divisions I, II and III, All-Star Games in each division, vendor village, and a quality tournament in beautiful surroundings.

All teams will play one game on Friday, July 20. Games will begin at 3:00 pm. The tournament will conclude Sunday, July 22 by 3:00 p.m. Game Guarantee: All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 5 games over the course of the weekend. All teams will have one game on Friday afternoon/evening. Divisions: In order to keep the competition at a high level, 3d Lacrosse and FLG will cap the number of teams that can participate. Divisions will be grade-based, as follows:

2013 Rising Seniors Division; 2014 Rising Juniors Division; 2015 Rising Sophomores Division; Youth Divisions will also be grade-based: 2016 Rising Freshmen, 2017 Rising 8th graders

The FLG in 3D tournament will include pool play and championship play. How well a team does in pool play will determine their seeding for championship play. Points will be given as follows: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss. Seeding ties will be broken by:

The tournament registration fee is $100 for youth players (2016, 2017) and $250 for high school players (2013, 2014, 2015). In addition, a $250 deposit per team is required to hold a team’s spot. Camps

Villanova University Overnight Instructional Camp, July 10-13, for athletes aged 11-to-17 that are interested in improving their basic skills and learning the techniques of lacrosse. The camp will be divided into a two junior divisions (11- and 12-year olds and 13- and 14- year-olds) and a senior division (15-to-17). The entire Villanova University Men’s Lacrosse staff as well as local high school coaches and many of the best current college players will be coaching. The highly skilled and beginners will benefit from the college and high school coaches who teach at the camp.

Coach Jeff Shirk’s Instructional Lacrosse Camp, July 12-15, Boys Ages 7-18, Washington College (Chestertown, MD).
The Instructional Camp is designed to create a fun-filled experience for each camper with a focus on teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse. Time will be spent developing all areas of the game perfect for every experience level in an upbeat and enjoyable environment. Participants can stay as an overnight camper or attend as a day camper.
One of the goals of Jeff Shirk Lacrosse Camps is to spread the game of lacrosse and make it accessible to all who want to play. Once again, Jeff Shirk Lacrosse Camps will donate $20 per camper to the camper’s local lacrosse youth program. Please be sure to note your youth program when registering online.

Camp Description: The Lehigh Valley Showcase is designed to provide rising high school seniors from the Lehigh Valley and across the country with advanced skill development in a highly competitive, tournament style, playing environment. The showcase will provide a platform for players to display their skills in front of college coaches from Divisions I, II, and III, as these coaches will be invited to serve as instructors and also as recruiters. Off the field, players will take part in strength and speed training clinic (results will be given to take home at the end of camp), recruiting & academic seminar, and a leadership/character building seminar. The mission of the Lehigh Valley Showcase is to help prospective student athletes gain visibility within the recruiting landscape, while helping them grow as players and as people.

Villanova University 150 Showcase, 2 Sessions (Recruiting Classes of 2014 and 2015)
Dates: 1st Session June 30-July 2; 2nd Session July 13-15
This event will bring together some of the most talented rising sophomores and juniors in the country. Open to all prospects in the 2014 & 2015 classes, this three-day, two-night event will feature a practice run by college coaches, a recruiting seminar presented by the Villanova Men’s Lacrosse coaching staff, as well as 5 one-hour games for players to showcase their talents.

Lehigh Valley Rising Junior Showcase Camp, Boys Grade 11, Wednesday July 25th – Friday July 27th, at Lehigh University
Camp Description: The Lehigh Valley Showcase is designed to provide rising high school juniors from the Lehigh Valley and across the nation with advanced skill development in a highly competitive, tournament style, playing environment. The showcase will provide a platform for players to display their skills in front of college coaches from Divisions I, II, and III, as these coaches will be invited to serve as instructors and also as recruiters. As one of the last showcase events of the summer, this is a great chance to be seen before the 2014 recruiting season gets rolling (September 1 is the first time college coaches can communicate with a PSA per NCAA rule). Off the field, players will take part in strength and speed training clinics (results will be given to take home at the end of camp), recruiting & academic seminar, and a leadership/character building seminar. The mission of the Lehigh Valley Showcase is to help campers gain visibility within the recruiting landscape, while helping them grow as players and as people.

Southern States Elite Lacrosse Camp, July 28-29, Washington College (Chestertown, MD), Presented by Washington College and Washington & Lee University. This is an instructional recruiting weekend. Players will have a chance to showcase their skills for college coaches through instructional practices conducted by college coaches, followed by four games with sanctioned referees. Players will be placed on a team that will be coached by one college coach. This camp will also include a college admissions program, run by a Washington College Admissions Staff Member.
The college admissions program will cover topics such as what to expect when applying to college and how to prepare properly. Players will also attend a strength and conditioning/weight lifting session. Click here for registration and more information.
