Gavin McBride had two goals and two assists and Haverford School (PA) overcame a late rally by host Loyola Blakefield as the visiting Fords earned a hard-fought 6-5 victory over the Dons today in a non-league boys’ lacrosse game involving two Top 10 teams.
The win pushed the Fords to 3-0, while Loyola fell to 3-1. Haverford entered the game ranked No. 2 in the country by MaxPreps.com and ESPNHS and fifth by Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse. Haverford School also is the top-ranked team in the Phillylacrosse.com and PA Media rankings. Loyola Blakefield was No. 7 in MaxPreps.com.
The Fords have now beaten three MIAA teams – last week they toppled St. Paul’s and McDonogh. Haverford School has won 30 straight games, stretching to the 2010 season.
Reilly Hupfeldt added two goals and an assist for the Fords while Sam Rohr and Henry Blynn each had one goal and one assist. Jake Landman, who suffered a munor injury late in the game but should be recovered for the team’s next game Friday vs. Landon School at Navy, made 8 saves. Will Gural won 9 of 13 face-offs.

“It was an incredible game and so much fun to play,” said Rohr, the senior middie headed to Penn. “They’re a great team and I can’t give them enough credit.
Haverford School coach John Nostrant was pleased with his team’s overall play.
“They (the Dons) were very good and they are a senior-laden, well-coached team,” he said. “We got four man-up goals, which is unusual in Baltimore, but we’ll take them.
“We kind of held on at the end. We were up two (6-4) and gave them one with about four minutes to go. We had a couple bad possessions and they had a chance at the end. The defense played pretty well the whole game and I thought both teams couldn’t decide who would play worse in the first half.”
Deemer Class (one assist) and Conor Dalton each scored twice for the Dons. Devon McNamara added a goal and an assist.
