Maryvale junior goalie Caroline Federico made nine of her 13 saves in the first half as the Lions surprised Bryn Mawr, 9-7, Thursday in the semifinals of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference tournament.
The third-seeded Lions (13-3) will meet too-seeded McDonogh on Sunday at Stevenson University at 3 p.m. in the championship game. McDonogh advanced by routing Notre Dame Prep, 13-2.
Senior Carly Ross had three goals and Sam Darcangelo added a pair for Maryvale Prep, which took a 6-2 lead and later stretched it to 9-3.
Kate Snouffer, Kassandra Bowling and Erica Matz each had two goals for the Mawrtians.
McDonogh 13, Notre Dame Prep 2
Sam Burgess had four goals and Taylor Cummings scored three while Corinne Etchison added two to help the Eagles (16-0) win their 67th straight game and advance to the IAAM finals.
