Navy women’s lacrosse head coach Cindy Timchal will be inducted to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, US Lacrosse announced Wednesday. Timchal and seven other players and coaches will be formally inducted as the Class of 2012 on October 20 at The Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley, Md.

Timchal recently completed her 30th season as a Division I head coach and owns a career record of 412-108 (.792). Timchal became the first college lacrosse coach to win 400 games this past season and she is the sport’s all-time leader in wins.

In five seasons at Navy, Timchal is 76-22 (.776) and has led the Midshipmen to three straight Patriot League titles. Timchal is Navy’s only coach in its five-year history and the program has competed in the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three years.

Timchal won eight national championships while coaching at Maryland (1991-2006), including seven in a row, and she also had a nine-year stint at Northwestern (1982-90). Timchal is the only women’s lacrosse coach to take three different programs to the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Timchal is already a member of two US Lacrosse Chapter Hall of Fames (Philadelphia/Eastern Pa. and Potomac) and earns induction into the national hall of fame in her first year on the ballot.

Timchal coached two members of the 2012 induction class, Jen Adams and Kelly Amonte Hiller, at Maryland. The rest of the class includes Ray Colsey, Brian Dougherty, Missy Foote, Jesse Hubbard and Tim Nelson.

The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a program of US Lacrosse, was established in 1957 to honor men and women who by their deeds as players, coaches, officials and/or contributors, and by the example of their lives, personify the great contribution of lacrosse to our way of life. More than 350 lacrosse greats are honored in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, which is located with the Lacrosse Museum at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Baltimore.
