Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE: UA) and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. announced the head coaches for the 2012 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. Both the girls and boys games will be contested at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University in Towson, Md. on June 30.
The boys game will feature Jesse Hubbard (North) and Ryan Boyle (South), both All-Americans at Princeton University. Shannon Smith, who will lead the North girls squad, is the first Under Armour All-America alumnus (2008) to serve as a head coach in the game. She’ll be up against the South’s Becky Groves who has led Century High School to three state titles in her five years at the school.
Hubbard played on three NCAA national championship teams at Princeton and is a three-time All-American. He finished his collegiate career as Princeton’s all-time leader in career goals and goals in a season (1996). On the professional level he’s a six-time All-Star (2001-2006) and lead the MLL in single season goals scored three times (2001-2003). He also played on the U.S. men’s national team in 1998.
Boyle led teams to championships at every level of play from the youth, high school, collegiate, international, and professional ranks. He was a four-time All-American at Princeton University and led the Tigers to a national championship in 2001. He graduated as the school’s all-time leader in points and assists. He was the MLL Rookie of the Year in 2004 and led the Philadelphia Barrage to championship in 2004, 2006 and 2007. He is the co-founder of the Trilogy Lacrosse youth and high school lacrosse club program and currently serves as its CEO.
Smith won the Tewaaraton (2011) and Honda Sports Award during her stellar career at Northwestern University. She leaves Northwestern in 2012 as a three-time national champion and the school’s all-time single season leading scorer (86 points) and second in career points (362). She earned NCAA tournament MVP honors twice.
Groves was the head coach for Century the last two seasons and was the assistant coach for the three years prior. She has enjoyed winning three state titles and appeared in four state finals. This year she led Century to an 18-1 record winning the 2A/3A state title and only lost to No.1 ranked McDonogh. Century has earned a No.1 Maryland public school ranking and a No. 5 national ranking during her tenure. As a head coach, she has a combined record of 33-4.
In addition to her success as a coach, Groves earned All-America honors during her playing career at Towson University.
