Sean Coleman scored early in sudden death overtime off a feed from La Salle (Pa.) teammate and Maryland recruit Matt Ranbo as the Duke’s Lacrosse Club (Pa.) defeated GotSkillz, 8-7, today to claim the title at Champ Camp at Homewood Field at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
The Dukes had won the title five straight years before being beaten in the finals last year by Tri-State.
Eight different players scored for the Dukes, who finished 9-0.
The winning goal was set up by a face-off win by Charles Kelly (Malvern Prep). Thirty seconds later, Rambo found Coleman for the game-winner.
Also scoring for the Dukes were Rambo, Chris Hilburn, Nick Valentino (Hempfield), Trevor Kupecky (Upper Merion), Grayson Helm (Wyomissing), Mike Sutton (St. Augustine Prep) and Reilly Hupfeldt (Haverford School).
Matt Barrett (Malvern Prep) was the winning goalie.
The Dukes had seized a 6-2 lead in the second half with the help of five straight goals. But Villanova recruit Devin McNamara (Loyola Blakefield) scored twice for GotSkillz and after Hilburn gave the Dukes a 7-6 lead Princeton recruit Sam Bonafede (Chaminade) tied it with 2 minutes left in regulation.
GotSkillz had taken a 2-1 lead early on on goals by Brinton Valis (McDonogh) and Carney Mahon (Chaminade).
The Dukes had advanced to the finals with a 13-2 win over Team 24 (NY). GotSkillz advanced by downing Philly’s Twist Black, 9-2.
