Boys’ roundup: Boys’ Latin edges Hill Academy; St. Paul’s wins, Severn School falls

T Moyer had three goals and the go-ahead goal in the fourth period as No. 1-ranked Boys’ Latin (MD) defeated Hill Academy (Ontario), 11-10, Friday in a thilling game between to top-rated squads.

The Lakers (5-0) were down 9-8 with eight minutes to go and scored three straight goals before holding on for the victory.

Colin Heacock had the tying goal and then Moyer fed Devin Shewell for the insurance goal to make it 11-9.
The seventh-ranked Pride (8-2) is playing many of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic region for the past two weeks. They play today at Bullis School (MD).

“We had a good lead in the third and kicked it away with some dumb penalties,” said Boys’ Latin coach Bob Shriver. “We moved too many times on face-off and it’s the first time this year we have been down a man. We got caught moving six times today.

“Shack Stanwick had a great game setting picks and moving defenders off ball to allow other guys to get open scores.”

Hill Academy coach Brodie Merrill has enjoyed the long trip South.

“It was fun for the guys to get to experience this and play the No. 1 team in this environment,” he said. “That’s lacrosse.

“It’s a little play here, a pipe there, or a inch there. I’m glad to see how the guys responded being down.”
Shriver on Merrill; “He is one of the greatest players to ever put a stick in his hand. I think he knows what he is doing coaching wise.

St. Paul’s (MD) 8, Hereford 4

The No. 6 Crusaders used six straight goals in the second half to improve to 5-0.

The No. 6 Crusaders dominated No. 8 Hereford in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals after the break for an 8-4 win.

Mikey Wynne, Henry Riehl and Carter Flaig each had two goals and Alex McGovern added agoal and three assist for St. Paul’s (5-0). Seniors Travis Wood, Mike Mayer and A.J. Fradkin led the defense.

Joe Seider had two goals for Hereford (0-1), which has won five straight Class 3A-2A state titles and finished 19-1 last season.

McCallie (TN) 9, Severn (MD) 8

Chad Toliver scored the game-winner as the Blue Tornado improved to 7-0 with the comeback win played at St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA).

Severn (3-1) had led, 7-6, going into the final quarter.

Ryan Lamon led Severn with five goals,
