University of Cincinnati lacrosse head coach Gina Oliver and her staff have welcomed nine freshmen student-athletes into the fold as they prepare for the 2014 season.

Mariah Baker (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Liz Burgee (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright), Skylar DeLemos (Cranbury, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro), Elaina Enich (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), Hannah Hicklen (Baltimore, Md./Towson High), Hannah Hinsch (Lebanon, Conn./Northfield Mount Herman), Sydney Lubeley (Rosemont, Minn./Rosemont), Stefanie Neill (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) and Dani Tunnell (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) will don the red and black this coming year.

“We’re really excited to welcome the 2017 class of nine into the fold,” said Oliver. “We have some really talented and athletic lacrosse players that are definitely going to make us better and make an impact on the field right away. I’m excited that we’re continually bringing in kids with high academic standards as well as competitive drive.”

Baker, Enich and Hinsch will join the Bearcat attack in 2014. Baker was a three-year letterwinner in lacrosse at New Jersey’s Westfield High school, while also earning letters in cross country and track during her prep career. Enich was on the attack for a New Albany High School team that won the Ohio state title in 2013, earning All-American honors. Enich helped New Albany to at least the state semifinals all four years, earning at least all-conference honors from her sophomore season on. Hinsch registered 78 goals and 56 assists in her prep career and led Northfield Mount Herman in scoring as a senior with 27 goals and 30 assists. In 2012, Hinsch was a Brine National High School All-American.

The class includes a pair of midfielders in Hicklen and Tunnell. Hicklen was a team captain for Towson High School, earning a spot in the Baltimore Country Senior All-Star Game. Tunnell helped Oakdale High School in Maryland to a regional championship in 2013 and was a two-time first-team all-area player in lacrosse, as well as volleyball.

The defenders in the class are Burgee, DeLemos, Lubeley and Neill. Burgee was an All-Baltimore County selection during her prep career, helping C. Milton Wright High School to conference championships from 2010-13. DeLemos was the 2013 team MVP for West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, who she helped to a conference title in 2011. Lubeley was a two-time team captain and two-time defender of the year for Rosemont High School in Minnesota. Neill helped Anderson High School to state championships in 2010, ’11 and ’12.

The group will get its first taste of collegiate lacrosse action this weekend, when the Bearcats visit Marquette for a pair of games against Marquette and Grand Valley. UC will also visit Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 6, before hosting Alumni Weekend Oct. 11-13.
