Seniors Ashleigh Rohrback, Kaitlin Sheridan, Kelly Murkey and redshirt junior Andi Raymond have been named the 2014 Towson University women’s lacrosse team captains, Tiger head coach Sonia LaMonica announced.towson copy

“These four student-athletes were no brainers when it came time to select who will best serve our team as captains this year,” said LaMonica. “Over the course of their careers, they have earned the respect of their teammates and our coaching staff through their actions both on and off the field. They each bring highly valuable assets to the table and they understand the responsibilities, and at times the burden, that can come with being a truly great leader.”

Rohrback enters her senior season looking to build on a highly successful 2013 season. Named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Year, she led the CAA in assists per game (2.46) and points per game (3.92). Rohrback finished the 2013 season with 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points. Her 32 assists ranked fifth in single-season history at Towson. Rohrback was an IWLCA All Mid-Atlantic Region first team selection, a first team All-CAA pick and a member of the CAA All-Tournament team.

Sheridan is coming off a break out junior year; she started all 19 games on defense. She was named the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player after posting four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the championship game. Sheridan and the Tiger defense held Hofstra scoreless for the final 26 minutes of the game to preserve the victory. She finished second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and added 30 ground balls.

Murkey is a key contributor for the Tigers off the bench at midfield. Last year she appeared in 16 games and tallied four goals and an assist. She also had five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Murkey had the best season of her career as a sophomore when she finished the year with 10 goals, six assists, 24 draw controls and eight caused turnovers.

Raymond returns to the field in 2014 after missing all of 2013 due to injury. In 2012, she was one of the Tigers’ top contributors with 35 goals and 33 assists for 68 points. That season she was an IWLCA All Mid-Atlantic Region second team selection, a first team All-CAA pick and a member of the CAA All-Tournament team. Raymond’s 33 assists that season were tied for third in single-season history at Towson.

The Tigers will open their 2014 season on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when they host UMBC at 4 p.m.
