Girls’ lacrosse: McDonogh School (@McDGVL) tops Severn School, 9-6, for 96th straight win; Mt. Hebron wins

Megan Whittle and Anne Smith each scored three goals and visiting McDonogh School used a 5-0 run to break open a tie game as the Eagles defeated host Severn School today in a key IAAM girls’ lacrosse game.

McDonogh (5-0), the No. 1 team in the Brine/TopLaxRecruits Rankings, won its 96th straight game and improved to 2-0 in the IAAM. No. 14 Severn School (3-2) fell to 2-2 in the IAAM.

The game was tied, 4-4 when Whittle scored with a minute left in the first half. Miranda McCoy made it 6-4 before halftime and then Brindi Griffin, Smith and Olivia Jenner scored to make it 9-4 with 21:16 left in the game. (Via @McDGVL.)

Caroline Steele scored three goals and Meredith Brown posted 16 saves in a standout performance for Severn.

McDonogh is now seven wins away from tying the national record for consecutive wins by a girls’ program set by Maryland schools Loch Raven (1982) and Mt. Hebron (2007).
