Taylor Hensh had five goals and one assist and Marissa Davey tallied five goals Wednesday to lead Marriotts Ridge to am 18-5 rout of Oakdale in the Maryland Public Class 3A/2A state title game at UMBC.

Marriotts Ridge (17-2) won its second straight crown and third in fourth years.

Marriotts Ridge scored the game’s 12 goals, earning its third state title in four seasons. The Mustangs, who routed Century in last year’s finals, capped a four-year run of 70-5.

“We wanted to go home with it all. That was a big motivation,” said Marriotts Ridge senior midfielder Alexis Zadjura. “There are nine of us and we wanted a state title and we got it.”

University of Maryland recruit Carly Heine and Emma Bowman each scored twice for Oakdale (16-3).

Marriotts Ridge had too much skill and experience against Oakdale, in its fourth year of varsity play. Lexi Souder had a hat trick with Carly Miller scoring twice and Kerr posting a goal and two assists.

“We executed the game plan again,” said Marriotts Ridge coach Amanda Brady. “Our defense played great in the first half. It was probably picture perfect.”

The Mustangs scored on five of its six possessions while Oakdale had two offensive possessions in the first 10 minutes of play. There was a running clock with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

“I am glad we were able to get (to the state final) because it showed us there are some big, strong athletes out there,” said Oakdale coach Beth Nave. “We still have some room to grow.”

Hensh, recently selected to play in July’s Under Armour All-American game, said winning the title as a freshman in 2011 was the best. Hensh, Zadjura, Jenna Kerr and Davey capped their four-year varsity career in style.

“I think this one has something special because we won our last game,” Davey said. “Last time we’ll ever be on the field together, we’ll go off with a win.”
