Evan Lombardo (four goals, one assist) scored the game-winner and Tom Smith had two goals and two assists while Jake White had 12 saves to lift Team Turnpike to a 10-9 win over Dukes Lacrosse Club 2 Thursday in a key game at Champ Camp in Baltimore.

The tourney, in its 25th years, features 40 teams playing at several Baltimore sites with Johns Hopkins as the host.

Team Turnpike – which led, 8-3, at halftime – took over the lead in Group G after two days with a 4-0 mark while Dukes 2 fell to 3-1 and second place in the group. The playoffs begin Friday after another round of round robin games.

The defending champion Dukes 1 was one of seven teams off to undefeated starts. Dukes won its four games by a total of 69-4 and leads Group A.

Also, Carolina Elite was 4-0 and leading Group B, while Tri-State White 2016 (NJ) was 4-0 and atop Group C. In Group D, Tri-State Gold 2015 took over first at 4-0 with an 8-4 win over Long Island 1 (3-1).

In Group F, Ridgewood (NJ) 1 improved to 4-0 with an 11-2 win late Thursday night over Triad Elite Lacrosse (N.C.).

In Group H, Team America improved to 4-0 and took over first with an 8-7 win over Team West Coast.

The AA section of the tourney features 40 teams as well as 11 2017 teams in the Challenge Division.

Dukes has won seven of the last eight championships.
