The Washington Post has reported that Kevin Giblin, who guided perennial national power Georgetown Prep (MD) for 27 years as head coach, resigned today.

The Post cited an e-mail sent by Georgetown Prep athletic director Dan Paro that stated that offensive coordinator Charlie Horning will take over the team on an interim basis.

Giblin posted a record of 424-89 and won 10 Interscholastic Athletic Conference titles. This year’s Hoyas went 19-1 and finished No. 5 in the Warrior/ Rankings.

He has coached over 25 high school All-Americans and has seen over 150 of his players go on to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

Giblin was inducted into Georgetown Prep’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Potomac Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Giblin also co-founded the “Checking for Cancer” Invitational (PA) with former Washington College linemate and close friend John Nostrant (Haverford School) and founded the Jesuit Lacrosse Classic. He also was a USA U-19 Team Assistant Coach for the 2008 Gold Medal Winners.
